Interview with Cold Spring Records, summer 2006 :
C.S.R.: Firstly please can you explain the concepts behind BLEIBURG? How long have you had this project?
S.R.: We had recorded some songs in the late 90´s and the songs we used for our first record the 7” "Chess Board". These first recordings have now been published along with other tracks on the 2CD "Falcon of Zagreb". After these recordings some years of silence followed. This silence broke with my 2LP "Domobran". The concepts of all the releases have a basic principle: history. It is important to read between the lines of global and personal history and not to believe all we read, hear, feel, see or are taught.
C.S.R.: Can you detail the relationship between this project and your other projects (THAGLASZ?)?
S.R.: Some of the groups involved in "Pieces Of A Broken Dream" are well known from the Thaglasz issues. During the long years I have pursued their musical evolution and learned to appreciate their work. As they supported me in my Thaglasz issues I haven´t forgot to invite them to take part in this collaboration. Two years ago I gave Thaglasz to a person in Berlin with the condition they publish all announced records and books. Up to now he has done nothing and so Thaglasz is now dead. The direct successor of Thaglasz is now Dark Transmission, but with a different concept.
C.S.R.: The new double album "Pieces Of A Broken Dream" is a series of collaborations from over the years, and the styles range from noise to ambient to neofolk. Which style to do feel represents BLEIBURG the most? Who do you enjoy working with?
S.R.: Bleiburg should not be put in a style-drawer. The actual 2CD is the best proof of that. The first CD contains mostly neofolk songs and the second CD ambient and noise songs. The concept of the record was to collaborate with my most favourite groups in these scenes. I am proud that 15 of them gave me their OK for this plan and I am really statisfied with the result. As a result of the natural evolution of the collaboration with Lonsai Maikov on "Pieces of a broken dream", shortly afterwards we recorded our 2CD "Ize Cheruvimy Tajno" (released soon via Old Europa Cafe).
In fact Bleiburg doesn´t represent any style: Bleiburg represents only Bleiburg, without classifying it under any one thing. Naturally all future records are influenced with the groups or musicians they are involved with.
C.S.R.: What are your feelings about the scene as it stands today?
SR: If you mean the music scene, I think that the music evolution in all electronic based styles is very promising (naturally only if the groups themselves take care that they don't stand still). In opposition of that, I think that the neofolk scene is not capable of development. Naturally there exist enough good groups, but most of them try to copy themselves and each other from record to record. This is my personal impression.
C.S.R.: Please detail future ideas and releases?
Bleiburg will release 9 records via Old Europa Cafe in a very limited edition, as established on the Thaglasz-issues. After releasing these records I plan to record a new 2CD featuring Manmachine called "History in flames". This record will be released as a limited edition of 45 copies in a boxset via SkullLine. A. Schwarz from Manmachine also collaborates (like dEMOND from MDMA) on some of these limited records, but now we plan to record a Bleiburg featuring Manmachine 2CD as a finished recording for this year. Another focal point will be the spread of Bleiburg merchandising objects. This year I have designed in a very limited edition three silver-rings and the fourth is in plan. I have also some other ideas, but first I will see the birth of the limited records before I will start with them.
